What is the UFC Fight Island?

Is there really something called UFC Fight Island? Is it an entire island dedicated to…fighting?

Unfortunately, yes. Because in today’s world, fighting is apparently that important.
When schools, jobs, careers and just about everything else was halted during the COVID-19 pandemic, people decided that fighting would still continue.

The UFC Fight Island is located in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The place debuted as a center for martial arts on July 11th at UFC 251. The Island posed as a safe place for UFC events to function as normal during the pandemic.daniil zanevskiy YIg8lzf5zw unsplash min

Locating the UFC Fight Island in Yas Island has many reasons. While islands are the perfect safe place for quarantine in case of an outbreak, it is also conveniently located close to Flash Entertainment Company, which once owned a part of UFC.

Yas Island is a man-made Island in the United Arab Emirates. And UFC is not the only feature on this Island. It is also home to other important sports and entertainment arenas like Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld and Warner Brothers World Abu Dhabi.

The Island was a huge success during the pandemic due to intense safety precautions. The place was not open to the general public, and only those affiliated with UFC were allowed to enter. Antigen tests were performed regularly, and health precautions were considered of utmost importance.

The decision to continue UFC even during the pandemic meant a lot for UFC fans. People appreciated the need to be entertained by under lockdowns. Moreover, it also kept the fighters active during those unprecedented times.

Yes, there is UFC fighting that is scheduled for Yas Island in 2023, too. The upcoming UFC schedule of 2023 states that one of the matches between Makhachev vs. Oliveira 2 on October 21st (UFC 294) is located in Etihad Arena, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.
So no, UFC has not completely abandoned Yas Island yet.

Last year at UFC 280, we all saw Islam Makhachev become the lightweight champion as he defeated Charles Oliveira through second-round stoppage. The Etihad Arena was completely sold out then, and the event was further headlined by a championship bout.

So this year, yet again, the UFC 294 is a much-awaited event that will have the Etihad Arena fully packed. UFC 294 will be the 18th event to be held in Abu Dhabi since UFC 112 in 2010.
Some of the key players who have performed in Abu Dhabi include Khabib Nurmagomedov, Conor McGregor, Israel Adesanya and Khamzath Chimaev.
